About my work with bodies and energy…

I have been a body worker in the realm of massage for almost 15 years. Before becoming self-employed in 2024, I was blessed with the opportunity to work in high-end and locally-owned spas in both Calgary and Halifax. During this time, hundreds of people trusted me with their bodies! Because of them, I was able to hone my skills and discover my passion for creating environments where people felt safe enough to fully relax. Grounding people into their lives and bodies became my life’s work.

In 2024 I became attuned to Usui Reiki. I quickly realized that the addition of energy work to my practice was incredibly beneficial to the people on my table, and I developed my signature Reiki Massage session, which is a deeply nourishing blend of relaxation massage and energy healing. This is now the only type of massage I offer! I also perform Traditional Reiki sessions, both in-person and online.

About my creative works…

Working with my hands is a non-negotiable part of my everyday life, whether I’m doing healing work with clients or creating art at home. I find that I quickly reach an internal state of imbalance when I’m consuming more than I’m creating! Working with wool and working with paint have become my chosen outlets for this creative energy. For a long time, I felt like my work with bodies and my artisanal endeavours were completely unrelated. However, the common thread of feeling grounded and whole has since become apparent to me.

Paintings of coastal landscapes with greenery, rocks, and water, placed on a beige textured surface with handspun balls of yarn and spindles nearby.

My paintings and my hand-spun yarn have a few things in common too; appreciation of nature, celebration of colours and textures, and connection to both the physical and unseen realms. When it comes to paintings, I am constantly inspired by the landscapes around me. My work often depicts scenes from the Maritimes (the small coastal provinces on the East Coast of Canada where I was raised and have returned to after a stint of living “out West”). There’s something about this place that makes me feel grounded and at peace, and I hope that collectors of my work feel the same when engaging with my paintings.

Wonderful Wool…

I began processing and spinning wool in 2022 after receiving an entire feed bag of wool from my sheep-farming dad and a drop spindle from my craft-enthusiast mom. It quickly became an obsession, even though I had no idea what I was doing at the time. Working with raw fleece was such a tangible connection to land and animal kin - the wool was still greasy with lanolin and full of plant matter from the place my dad kept his sheep. Cleaning it, picking it and carding it was a slow and meticulous process. And spinning it on the drop spindle became a meditation in patience and presence. As my technique improved and I found my rhythm I became very aware that this traditional craft was connecting me to something very ancient!

Since those first skeins of hand-spun yarn, I’ve acquired more wool in various stages of preparation and more spindles in various styles. I’ve taken classes with other artisans to deepen my knowledge and advance my skills. And I’ve gotten hours and hours (and hours) of practice in! I developed a workshop for young kids (called “Wonderful Wool”) and got the chance to facilitate it here in Fredericton at a local Montessori school.

My love for hand-spinning has continued to ripple outwards, and I’m currently developing an online course that will take you through the entire process, at your own pace. This will include sourcing and purchasing wool, processing it, and spinning it on a drop spindle. I plan on sharing every bit of knowledge I’ve acquired in the hopes that it will help people approach this traditional skill with confidence and reverence.
